1 1/3 is the answer

you have to subtract the numerator of the improper fraction from the denominator and the number you have left is the fraction like for 4/3 4-3=1 so the fraction is 1/3 the amount that is NOT a fraction counts as the whole depending on how many times it can go into the denominator.

All you have to do is divide the numerator ( 4 ) by the denominator ( 3 )

The answer to ...

4 ÷ 3

Would turn into your mixed number :)

Or a better way to look at it is how many times can 3 go into 4 ?

1 time

and how much was left over that the 3 couldn't fill ?

1

Now what you do with is put it over 3 ( the original denominator )

And you get ...

1 1/3

One and one third
