Answer:

The probability of winning the last prize is  \frac{1}{9}

Step-by-step explanation:

Total Number of guests = 22

Total Number of prizes = 14

We have to find the probability of winning the last prize. When its turn to announce the last prize, the previous all prizes would have been already distributed. This means, 13 of the prizes would have been already distributed. Since multiple winning is not allowed, the last prize would be distributed in the remaining guests.

After distributing 13 prizes, the number of guests who can win the last prize will be = 22 - 13 = 9

We have only 1 last prize and 9 people among which only 1 will win the prize. Probability is defined as the ratio of favorable outcomes to total number of outcomes.

In this case the favorable outcome is the person with numbered ticket who is going to win a prize. This means favorable outcome is only 1. Total number of outcomes is total number of people remaining, which is 9.

Therefore, the probability of winning the last prize is 1 in 9 i.e. \frac{1}{9}

If the triangles are congruent, then X=?
steposvetlana [31]

Answer:

Hi there!

The correct answer to this question is: x=3

Step-by-step explanation:

because these two triangles are similar, that means the hypotenuse are similar. which means you can set the sides equal to each other like this:

13 = 4x + 1   minus one on both sides and you should get 4x = 12 and then divide 4 on both sides and you should finally get x = 3

A motorboat travels 168 kilometers in 4 hours going upstream. It travels 280 kilometers going downstream in the same amount of t
Grace [21]

Answer:

The speed of the boat is 56 km/hr

The rate of the current is 14 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following;

  • Distance traveled upstream = 168 km
  • Time taken to travel upstream = 4 hours
  • Distance traveled down stream = 280 km
  • Time taken down stream = 4 hours

We are required to determine the speed of the boat in still water and the speed of the current.

We are going to take;

Speed of the boat as = x km/hr

Rate of flow of current = y km/hr

We can determine the speed of the boat upstream;

Speed = Distance ÷ time

               = 168 km ÷ 4 hours

               = 42 km/hr

But, the speed upstream is given by (x - y) km/hr

Therefore; ( x-y) km/hr = 42 km/hr ......................... Eqn 1

Speed of the boat down stream

    speed = 280 km ÷ 4 hours

                = 70 km/hr

But, the speed downstream is given by (x+y) km/hr

Therefore, x+y km/hr = 70 km/hr ........................... Eqn 2

Solving Eqn 1 and Eqn 2 simultaneously;

x - y = 42

x + y = 70

Eliminating x

-2y = - 28

    y = 14 km/hr

Solving for x,

x = 42 + y

   = 42 + 14

   = 56 km/hr

Therefore, the speed of the boat is 56 km/hr while the rate of the current is 14 km/hr

Explain step by step =) Harry rides his bike 25 3/8 miles. Karen rides her bike 25 2/5 miles. Who rides farther?
Alex
To answer this question we need to use subtraction.
we need to make the denominators the same.
In order to make them the same we need to find the least common multiple, of 8 and 5.
The least common multiple(the smallest shared value of the two numbers) is 40.

Next we divide our old denominator 5 by 40, which gives us 8, we multiply 8 by the numerator 2, which gives us 16. So now we have 16/20. We have to do the same to the other side. 8÷40 = 5.  5 x 3 = 15. Now we have 15/20.

Now we have a brand new equation, 16/40 - 15/40. The answer is 1/40.
In a fraction the answer is 1/40, so Karen rides her bike further.

In decimal form the answer is 0.025.

I hope this helps!
