Well simple. Students have only really seen the stuff they put in the books. Which happens to be a lot. Like the shanty towns or Hoover towns. The soup kitchens and stuff like that. Also the main reason why the depression happened, which was the stock market crash of 1929

Answer: The Maya was a Mesoamerican civilization that lived in what is now southeastern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, western Honduras and western El Salvador. The region were the Maya lived mostly consists of lowlands, which means that the Maya did not have to adapt to live in high elevations. The abundance of water in the region also meant that they did not rely on building causeways and canals. However, the main problem that the Maya had was having to clear the dense rain forest.
