The correct answer is B) religious freedom.

The Chief motivation for the settling of New England was religious freedom.

Puritans left Britain because they had many differences and problems with the Church of England. Puritans were English Protestants that decided to move to the Americas looking for a new place to start a life. They traveled more than two moths of the Mayflower ship and arrived to New England in 1620 and established the colony of Plymouth where they could profess his religion without any obstruction of the Church of England. During those first years in America, Plymouth society lived under the Puritan's religion orientation. So yes, the Chief motivation for the settling of New England was religious freedom.
