I believe that the theme that these two excerpts from Frank Kafka's Metamorphosis have in common is the sense of duty toward one's family. Gregor feels that he needs to keep his family happy and rich, and even though he is a bug at the moment, that sense of duty doesn't disappear.

Answer: the sense of duty toward one's family

Explanation: In these two excerpts of "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka, the theme that both have in common is the sense of duty toward one's family. Gregor always provided money for his family. In the first excerpt, he is proud of being able to provide a comfortable life for his family and is afraid that they may lose it now that he has become an insect. In the second excerpt, he is worried about the unpleasantness he is imposing on his family.

Inventors usually try to solve a problem when they make an invention.

Answer: D.His YMCA students needed an indoor activity during a snowstorm

Explanation:

In the winter of 1891, male students at the then International YMCA Training School, Springfield, Massachusetts were restless from not having any sports to play as most games they played such as Lacrosse and football (soccer) needed to be played in warmer weather.

The school realised that there was a need for an indoor sport that could be played regardless of the weather outside. This is where James Naismith came in.

He came up with a game that drew influence from Rugby, Lacrosse and Soccer and for the goals baskets were used because that was all the janitor had. The baskets however needed people underneath them to retrieve ball and it was only a few years later that it was cut at the bottom to enable the balls to fall through the basket. He then drew up 15 rules and this was the birth of basketball.

Explanation:

3. The Executive Order 9066 issued by President Roosevelt in February 1942 made it mandatory for Japanese Americans to be relocated at internment camps for security purpose after the Japanese attacked the Pearl Harbor. The order is believed to have violated the civil rights of the Japanese Americans as they were not involved in the attack.

4. The photograph portrays how life was like for the Japanese Americans after they were relocated at Tanforan Assembly Center in San Bruno California.

5. The purpose of the photograph is to prove that the camps existed. There were a total of 10 camps and about 120000 Japanese Americans were relocated in these camps.

6. President Ford believed the removal of Japanese Americans was unjust. On February 19, 1976, he formally cancelled the Executive Order 9066 and urged every citizen not to make the same mistake again.

In which sentence does the adverb clause modify an adverb?
Ganezh [65]

Answer:

B

Explanation:

In this sentence the adverb clause is: Although Denmark is located on a peninsula.

The subject of the sentences is country.

The verb is includes.

The adverb is also.

More than 400 islands is a prepositional phrase.

Adverb clauses can modify verbs, but they can also modify adverbs and adjectives, so it is always a good idea to identify the parts of speech of the sentence before deciding which one is modified by the adverb clause.
