Review the table below. Note the exchange rates for dates in January of 2008 and 2013. You will use the information in the table

and what you learned in the lesson to answer the questions that follow.
2008 U.S. currency exchange rate 2013 U.S. currency exchange rate
Canada (Canadian dollar, or CAD) U.S. $1 = 1.00 CAD U.S. $1 = 0.99 CAD
India (Indian rupee, or INR) U.S. $1 = 39.41 INR U.S. $1 = 54.80 INR
European Union Eurozone (euro, or EUR) U.S. $1 = 0.69 EUR U.S. $1 = 0.76 EUR
South Africa (South African rand, or ZAR) U.S. $1 = 6.78 ZAR U.S. $1 = 8.46 ZAR
Source: x-rates.com
Write a paragraph that explains why a traveler will need to visit a currency exchange. Include how exchange rates are determined.
A. You have $25 in the United States. Imagine you are visiting India in 2013 to check out new products. How much would your $25 be in Indian rupees? (Be sure to show your work.)

B. You read a news article about a great new invention in Canada. You think maybe you want to visit Canada instead of India in 2013. How much would your $25 be in Canadian dollars? (Be sure to show your work.)
You can buy certain supplies in the European Union or in South Africa. For the moment, ignore other factors that can affect price. Would it be cheaper to buy your supplies in the European Union or in South Africa? Write a complete paragraph to explain your answer.
Imagine your business sells tablets made in India. Would it have been cheaper to buy the product in 2008 or in 2013? Write a complete paragraph to explain your answer.

          2008                                          2013
U.S. $1 = 1.00 CAD               U.S. $1 = 0.99 CAD
U.S. $1 = 39.41 INR              U.S. $1 = 54.80 INR
U.S. $1 = 0.69 EUR               U.S. $1 = 0.76 EUR
<span>U.S. $1 = 6.78 ZAR                U.S. $1 = 8.46 ZAR

When you travel, it is better to visit a currency exchange and have your foreign currency exchange into the local or national currency of the country you are visiting. Cash transactions will be easily done once local currency is used. You don't need to worry about the exchange rate every time you purchase a commodity.

2013: US$ 1 = 54.80 INR

$25 x 54.80 INR/$1 = 1,370 INR

2013: US$ 1 = 0.99 CAD

$25 x 0.99CAD/$1 = 24.75 CAD

It would be cheaper to buy products in South Africa than in European Union. This is because the US dollar has a higher value in South Africa than in the European Union.

It would be cheaper to buy the product in 2008 because the value of US dollars in India is lower compared to its value in 2013.

Explain the following four (4) types of vulnerability and give examples for each from actual situations:
stepladder [879]

Physical Vulnerability

Physical vulnerability includes the difficulty in access to water resources, means of communications, hospitals, police stations, fire brigades, roads, bridges and exits of a building or/an area, in case of disasters.

Manhood is personified in those who leave behind safety. They venture into the wilderness where help and modern conveniences are far removed.

Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar for his portrayal of fur trapper Hugh Glass. The Revenant is based on a true story. A female bear attacks Hugh,”ripping his scalp, puncturing his throat and breaking his leg.” His companions, believing he’ll die, leave him behind in a shallow grave.

Hugh wakes from unconsciousness to find himself alone in the wildnerness. Enraged, he crawls somewhere between 80-200 miles to seek revenge. In the true story, Hugh finds the culprits, “but instead of wreaking violent revenge, he forgives them both.”

Economic Vulnerability

Economic vulnerability of a community can be assessed by determining how varied its sources of income are…

We celebrate the man who starts from scratch and succeeds through perseverance. Rags to riches stories personify manhood.

Since Oracle was the first stock I purchased as a teenager, we’ll focus on former CEO Larry Ellison. Born into poverty, Ellison contracted pneumonia as an infant. His mother gave him to his Aunt and Uncle because she was unable to care for him.

Ellison cofounded a software company which eventually became Oracle. “Today, Oracle has annual revenues of around $38 billion, and Ellison has an estimated net worth of $46.2 billion.”

Social Vulnerability

A socially vulnerable community has weak family structures…one in which people are discriminated on racial, ethnic, linguistic or religious basis.

Men of legacy are those who overcame a social obstacle and etched their names in history, despite discrimination. Martin Luther King, Jr. fits this profile.

“When he was six years old, two white playmates told him that they were not allowed to play with him any longer. His mother explained to him that it was because they now attended segregated schools, but assured him that he was as good as anybody else.”

Martin was a Baptist preacher and based his peaceful protests and demonstrations on biblical scripture. He won the Noble Peace Prize in 1964. After his assassination, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1968.

A community which has negative attitude towards change…Their sources of livelihood do not have variety, lacks entrepreneurship…

Great innovators are known as great men. These are the ones who make positive change for everyone. I’ve always sought to be a Renaissance Man, and Leonardo da Vinci is a great role model.

While Leonardo da Vinci is most known for his paintings such as the Mona Lisa, “he was also a philosopher, engineer, and inventor.”

It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”

Emotional Vulnerability

While emotional vulnerability is not used as a measure to determine if a community is at-risk for disaster, a true man is comfortable in his own skin and emotions.

The hero’s journey demonstrates it’s not the alpha man, not the man who’s always #winning, nor the man who’s unfazed whom we admire. We respect the man who emerges; the man who has gone to hell and back and still conquers.
