Before the war there was no reason for them to unite and they were in <em>mutual distrust</em>, but during the war they learned that together they could be a power to be reckoned with.

It had <em>adverse impact on the British Empire</em> as the war enlarged the Britain's debt and generated resentment towards the colonists among British leaders. They were unsatisfied with the assistance offered by the colonists  during the war. And made plans to exercise more control over the government of colonies. These plans led to the American revolution.
