In a paragraph or two, consider the other possibility, that justice and moderation are the distinguishing features of all human

goodness. Thinking about the way that Socrates has explained what he is looking for in a definition of virtue, do you think this formulation could form the basis for an acceptable definition? Would it, in other words, do the job of saying how virtues, as Socrates says in his example of bees, "are all the same and do not differ from one another" (72b). Why or why not?

Answer:

Yes

Explanation:

Socrates ' concept of morality, because it states goodness is nothing but a subjective practice, is appropriate. Every person does have a different outlook about what is and is not virtuous. Justice is nothing more than a form of virtue that can be differently defined by different people once more. This goes against his explanation of bees, though, as each person has differing opinions, but essentially their ulterior motive for identifying virtue is only for the better.

When the government collects payroll taxes, they accumulate in the social security _____, out of which social security benefits
sergij07 [2.7K]
Answer: Trust Fund.

The Social Security Trust Fund is the collective name of the Federal Old Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund (OASI) and the Federal Disability Insurance Trust Fund (DI). The FICA statute established the payroll taxation system by which the Social Security Trust System is financed. The account is ideally in excess of the amount needed to fund the social security system for the fiscal year for good reason. The employee and employer will pay identical rates into the fund, and then the excess monies are invested in interest bearing federal securities to increase such monies held in trust.

The trust fund was originally created to account for projected future shortfall in benefits needed to pay out to the legitimate claimants. The policy changed in the 1980s where FICA payroll increased. These would be excess contributions from the said tax increases were deposited into the Social Security Trust Fund to be be used at a future time when the current assets of the Social Security System are not sufficient to honor their obligation. This policy is pay as you go or PAYGO.

As Congress has the duty of determining the taxation rates and policies (and consequently the amount of debt securities such as bonds, notes, etc.), which the executive branch must then execute such policies and the collection of the FICA payroll tax flows into the Social Security Trust Fund whereby the Social Security Administration carries out its responsibility to invest in the securities according to the FICA statute and present amendments to the statute.

Compare the language used by the author to show a cause-and-effect relationship in the quotation from ""How Water Loss Affects B
Agata [3.3K]

According to a different source, these are the passages that come with this question:

From "How Water Loss Affects Biodiversity":

<em>"When a region experiences a significant drought, many animals may die from lack of water and food. [...] If tourism declines due to high wildlife casualties, then the locals who depend on income from tourism will lose their livelihood. People may then turn to farming to earn money, but crops require water to grow. This can place further strain on the water supply and worsen the original problem of the drought."</em>

From "Water from the Air: Cloud Forests":

<em>"Once cloud forests are cleared, the damage can be irreversible. The cloud cover, which is so essential to their livelihood, disperses. The soil degrades and erodes, washing down the mountain slopes. Many species vital to the ecosystem die off."</em>

In these passages, the authors employ very similar language to describe the cycle that can take place in certain regions due to environmental degradation. In the first example, the author focuses on the effects of drought, and how this can impact the livelihood of people. He talks about the decline in tourism, and the effect on agriculture. He uses phrases with negative connotations such as "significant drought," "lose their livelihood,"  "further strain" and "worsen the original problem." All of these allow the author to explain the problems that arise in such a situation. On the other hand, the second passage also talks about the problems of a particular ecosystem, in this case, the loss of cloud cover. However, the article conveys a less negative or emotional tone. Moreover, the author does not mention how this loss affects human beings.
