A group conducted a poll of 2083 likely voters just prior to an election. The results of the survey indicated that candidate A w

ould receive 47% of the popular vote and candidate B would receive 44% of the popular vote. The margin of error was reported to be 3%. The group reported that the race was too close to call. Use the concept of a confidence interval to explain what this means. What does it mean to say the race was too close to call?

Answer:

With the given margin of error its is possible that candidate A wins and candidate B loses, and it is also possible that candidate B wins and candidate A loses. Therefore, the poll cannot predict the winner and this is why race was too close to call a winner.

Step-by-step explanation:

A group conducted a poll of 2083 likely voters.

The results of poll indicate candidate A would receive 47% of the popular vote and and candidate B would receive 44% of the popular vote.

The margin of error was reported to be 3%

So we are given two proportions;

A = 47%

B = 44%

Margin of Error = 3%

The margin of error shows by how many percentage points the results can deviate from the real proportion.

Case I:

A = 47% + 3% = 50%

B = 44% - 3% = 41%

Candidate A wins

Case II:

A = 47% - 3% = 44%

B = 44% + 3% = 47%

Candidate B wins

As you can see, with the given margin of error its is possible that candidate A wins and candidate B loses, and it is also possible that candidate B wins and candidate A loses. Therefore, the poll cannot predict the winner and this is why race was too close to call a winner.

1.What are the zeros of the polynomial function?
Lorico [155]
Let's to the first example:

f(x) = x^2 + 9x + 20

Ussing the formula of basckara

a = 1
b = 9
c = 20

Delta = b^2 - 4ac

Delta = 9^2 - 4.(1).(20)

Delta = 81 - 80

Delta = 1

x = [ -b +/- √(Delta) ]/2a

Replacing the data:

x = [ -9 +/- √1 ]/2

x' = (-9 -1)/2 <=> - 5

Or

x" = (-9+1)/2 <=> - 4
_______________

Already the second example:

f(x) = x^2 -4x -60

Ussing the formula of basckara again

a = 1
b = -4
c = -60

Delta = b^2 -4ac

Delta = (-4)^2 -4.(1).(-60)

Delta = 16 + 240

Delta = 256

Then, following:

x = [ -b +/- √(Delta)]/2a

Replacing the information

x = [ -(-4) +/- √256 ]/2

x = [ 4 +/- 16]/2

x' = (4-16)/2 <=> -6

Or

x" = (4+16)/2 <=> 10
______________

Now we are going to the 3 example

x^2 + 24 = 14x

Isolating 14x , but changing the sinal positive to negative

x^2 - 14x + 24 = 0

Now we can to apply the formula of basckara

a = 1
b = -14
c = 24

Delta = b^2 -4ac

Delta = (-14)^2 -4.(1).(24)

Delta = 196 - 96

Delta = 100

Then we stayed with:

x = [ -b +/- √Delta ]/2a

x = [ -(-14) +/- √100 ]/2

We wiil have two possibilities

x' = ( 14 -10)/2 <=> 2

Or

x" = (14 +10)/2 <=> 12
________________

To the last example will be the same thing.

f(x) = x^2 - x -72

a = 1
b = -1
c = -72

Delta = b^2 -4ac

Delta = (-1)^2 -4(1).(-72)

Delta = 1 + 288

Delta = 289

Then we are going to stay:

x = [ -b +/- √Delta]/2a

x = [ -(-1) +/- √289]/2

x = ( 1 +/- 17)/2

We will have two roots

That's :

x = (1 - 17)/2 <=> -8

Or

x = (1+17)/2 <=> 9

Well, this would be your answers.

The table shows the temperature of ocean water in degrees Celsius at different depths in meters: Depth (meters) 0 500 1,000 1,50
NARA [144]

You can use the fact that the corresponding values from both the columns are taken into ordered pair (x,y) form to plot them on the 2d graphs (for 2 data values' set)

The scatter plot best representing the data in the table is given by

Option D:   Plots ordered pairs 0, 23. 5 and 500, 12 and 1000, 6 and 1500, 4. 2 and 2000, 4 and 2500, 3. 8 and 3000, 3 and 3500, 2. 8 and 4000, 2.

How are ordered pairs formed for plotting 2d data?

There are two axis in the graph. Horizontal axis and vertical axis. The independent variable is plotted on horizontal axis and dependent variable's values are plotted on vertical axis.

Since the temperature is measured on each value of depth, thus, depth is independent and temperature is depending on the depth.

The data points are ordered as

(independent variables' value, dependent variables' value at that value of independent variable)

Thus, for the given table, we will have:

(0, 23.5), (500, 12), ... points.(it is denoting like what was the value of second variable when first variable was this. Like when depth was 0, temperature was 23.5 degrees Celsius, and so on).

Thus,

The scatter plot best representing the data in the table is given by

Option D:   Plots ordered pairs 0, 23. 5 and 500, 12 and 1000, 6 and 1500, 4. 2 and 2000, 4 and 2500, 3. 8 and 3000, 3 and 3500, 2. 8 and 4000, 2.

What is the explicit formula for the sequence 7,2,-3,-8,-13
eduard
You could say that      a(n) = 12 - 5n .

Then ...

a(1) = 12 - 5 = 7
a(2) = 12 - 10 = 2
a(3) = 12 - 15 = -3
and so on.
So it seems to work.
