The label on 1-gallon can of paint states that the amount of paint in the can Is sufficient to paint at least 400 square feet (o

n average). Suppose the amount of coverage Is approximately normally distributed, and the overall standard deviation of the amount of coverage is 27 square feet. A random sample of 16 cans yields the sample mean amount of coverage of 390 square feet. Test the claim on the label at a 5% level of significance. Enter the test statistic in the first box and your decision in the second box (0 if you reject and 1 if you don't (i.e if you accept) Find the p value of the test in part (a)

Answer:

z=\frac{390-400}{\frac{27}{\sqrt{16}}}=-1.481

p_v =P(z

If we compare the p value and the significance level given \alpha=0.05 we see that p_v>\alpha so we can conclude that we FAIL reject the null hypothesis, so is not enough evidence to conclude that the sample mean is less then 400 at 5% of significance.

Step-by-step explanation:

Data given and notation

\bar X=390 represent the mean for the sample

\sigma=27 represent the standard deviation for the population

n=16 sample size

\mu_o =400 represent the value that we want to test

\alpha represent the significance level for the hypothesis test.

z would represent the statistic (variable of interest)

p_v represent the p value for the test (variable of interest)

State the null and alternative hypotheses.

We need to conduct a hypothesis in order to determine if the compact microwave oven consumes a mean of no more than 250 W:

Null hypothesis:\mu \geq 400

Alternative hypothesis:\mu < 400

We know the population deviation, so for this case is better apply a z test to compare the actual mean to the reference value, and the statistic is given by:

z=\frac{\bar X-\mu_o}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}} (1)

z-test: "Is used to compare group means. Is one of the most common tests and is used to determine if the mean is (higher, less or not equal) to an specified value".

Calculate the statistic

We can replace in formula (1) the info given like this:

z=\frac{390-400}{\frac{27}{\sqrt{16}}}=-1.481

Calculate the critical value

The critical value for this case would be :

P(Z

The value of a that satisfy this on the normal standard distribution is a=-1.64 and would be the critical value on this case zc=-1.64.

Calculate the P-value

Since is a one-side upper test the p value would be:

p_v =P(z

Conclusion

If we compare the p value and the significance level given \alpha=0.05 we see that p_v>\alpha so we can conclude that we FAIL reject the null hypothesis, so is not enough evidence to conclude that the sample mean is less then 400 at 5% of significance.

The coordinates of an ordered pair have opposite signs. In which quadrant(s) must the ordered pair lie? Explain.
Alex Ar [27]
There are two cases that fall into this category.
A. abscissa negative, ordinate positive. This type of coordinates are of points which lie on the second quadrant.
B. abscissa positive, ordinate negative. The points having this type of coordinates lie on the fourth quadrant.

Point A is at (3, 4) and point M is at (1, 0). Point M is the midpoint of segment AB. What
kompoz [17]

Answer:

B (-1 , -4)

Step-by-step explanation:

A (3 , 4)

M (1 , 0)

B\left( x_{B},y_{B}\right)

M is the midpoint of segment AB means :

\begin{cases}\frac{x_{A}+x_{B}}{2} =x_{M}&\\ \frac{y_{A}+y_{B}}{2} =y_{M}}{} &\end{cases}

Then

\begin{cases}x_{B}=2x_{M}-x_{A}&\\ y_{B}=2y_{M}-y_{A}&\end{cases}

Then

\begin{cases}x_{B}=2\left( 1\right)  -3&\\ y_{B}=2(0)-4&\end{cases}

Then

\begin{cases}x_{B}=-1&\\ y_{B}=-4&\end{cases}

Tabitha ate 1/4 of a sub and jordan ate 2/3 of the sub. how much of the sub was left over?
sergejj [24]

Answer:

1/12

Step-by-step explanation:

Total sub consumed = ¼ + ⅔

= [3(1) + 4(2)]/12 (LCM is 12)

= 11/12

Left = 1 - 11/12 = 1/12
