We can solve this by setting up a system of equations. x and y will represent the two numbers.
x+y = 12
x-y = -2
Personally, I'm going to solve the system by solving one of the equations for x and substituting it into the other one.
x = 12-y
12-y-y = -2
12-2y = -2
-2y = -14
y = 7

Now find the other number by plugging 7 in for y in one of the equations.
x+7 = 12
x = 5
OR
x-7 = -2
x = 5

So, the two numbers are 5 and 7.

Hello!

First, you set up a proportion : quilts / yards = 9 / 18 = 10 / x
Then, you solve for x.

x = 20

Write an equation for this relationship.
disa [49]

Answer:

y=18.5x

Step-by-step explanation:

74-55.5=18.50

92.50-74=18.50

111-92.5=18.50

(3,55.50)

y=18.5x +b

55.50=18.5(3)+b

55.50=55.50+b

b=0

Paul [167]

Answer:

k=0.023

Step-by-step explanation:

r \alpha  {t }^{2}  \\ r = k {t}^{2}  \\ 144 = k \times  {72 }^{2}  \\ k =   \frac{144}{ {72 }^{2} }   \\ k = 0.023 \\ the \: eqn \: is \: therefore \\ r = 0.023 \times  {t}^{2}
