The average age of an inmate in death row in 1989 was 36.2 years of age. A Sociologist claims that the average age of death-row

inmates has changed since. The sociologist collects a sample of 32 death-row inmates and finds that their mean age is 38.9 with a standard deviation of 9.6 years. Test the Sociologist’s claim at 0.05 significance level.

Answer:

We will not reject the null hypothesis.

There is not enough evidence to  support the claim that the mean age of death -row inmates is different from 36.2 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

The average age of an inmate in death row in 1989 was 36.2 years of age.

The sociologist collects a sample of 32 death-row inmates and finds that their mean age is 38.9 with a standard deviation of 9.6 years. Test the Sociologist’s claim at 0.05 significance level.

From the above information.

H_o: \mu = 36.2, H_a: \mu \neq 36.2

\mu = 36.2, \bar x = 38.9, \sigma = 9.6, n=32

This is a two sided test, with df = 32-1 = 31 and the critical values are \pm t_{0.025} =\pm2.040.

Now find the z score as shown:

z=\frac{\bar x-\mu}{\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}}

Substitute the respective values:

z=\frac{38.9-36.2}{\frac{9.6}{\sqrt{32}}}

z=\frac{2.7}{\frac{9.6}{5.6568}}}

z=1.59

Since, 1.591 doesn’t lie in the critical region,  hence we will not reject the null hypothesis.

There is not enough evidence to  support the claim that the mean age of death -row inmates is different from 36.2 years.

In triangle abc, ab=90 in, bc=80 in, and angle b measures 50°. what is the approximate perimeter of the triangle?
Arlecino [84]
You need to use the Law of Cosines:
AC² = AB² + BC² - 2·AB·BC·cos(b)

Therefore, you get:

AC = √(90² + 80² - 2·90·80·cos(50)
      =√5243.86
      = 72.4 in

Now you can sum up all the sides in order to find the perimeter:

AB + BC + AC = 90 + 80 + 72.4 = 242.4 in

The correct answer is A) 242.4 in

The diagram below gives the dimensions of a swimming pool. 18 ft , 20ft, 36ft (c) What is the total area of the swimming pool? E
WARRIOR [948]
The picture in the attached figure

Part 1) <span>What is the total area of the swimming pool?
</span>
we know that
<span>area of the swimming pool=area rectangle-area semi circle

area rectangle=20*36-----> 720 ft</span>²

area semicircle=pi*r²/2
r=18/2----> 9 ft
area semicircle=pi*9²/2----> 127.17 ft²

area of the swimming pool=720 ft²-127.17 ft²----> 592.83 ft²

the answer Part 1) is
The area of the swimming pool is 592.83 ft²

Part 2) <span>What is the perimeter of the swimming pool?
</span>
perimeter of the swimming pool=perimeter of rectangle-18 ft+perimeter semi circle
perimeter of rectangle=2*[20+36]---> 112 ft

perimeter semi circle=2*pi*r/2----> pi*r
r=9  ft
perimeter semi circle=pi*9----> 28.26 ft
 so
perimeter of the swimming pool=112 ft-18 ft+28.26 ft----> 122.26 ft

the answer Part 2) is
122.26 ft
