Hey there!

When solving systems of equations by elimination, what we do is we remove one variable by combining the equations and then we solve for one variable.

How does this work?

Well, let's say we have 2x in one equation and 2x in the other equation. If we combine the equations, it will simply be 4x! What we need to do is multiply one of the equations by -1, which will make one of the 2x's and -2x. Then, if we combine the two equations, our x's will be cancelled out and we can solve for y.

In this case, we don't need to change any of the equations because we have 4y in one equation and -4y in the other, so we will just add the equations and then solve for x.

-2x+4y=4

+

3x-4y=2

=

x=6

Now, we plug this into one of our equations to find y.

18-4y=2

-4y=-16

y=4

Therefore, our solution is x=6 and y=4.

I hope this helps!

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have an x under that radical, we have to get it out from under there.  To do that, do the opposite of the square root, which is to square.  But because this is an equation, you have to do the same thing to both sides.  Doing this gives you

6x-9=x^2

Get everything on one side and set the quadratic equal to 0 and solve for x:

x^2-6x+9=0

Factor this into 2 factors of (x - 3)(x - 3) = 0.  As you can see they are both the same, so x - 3 = 0 and x = 3.  That's your answer.  x = 3.

Bess [88]

Answer:

The correct answer is A.

A) The IQR of Karla's data in 13.

Step-by-step explanation:

The interquartile range can be defined as the difference of upper quartile and lower quartile range. If we want to find the IQR from the box plot, we can simply see the length of the box from the box plot, as it represent the IQR.

We can clearly see that:

IQR of Steve's data is 45 - 31 = 14, hence the second statement is incorrect

IQR of Karla's data is 52 - 39 = 13, hence the first statement is CORRECT

The difference of medians is 43 - 36 = 7

Hence the difference of medians is not the half or twice of IQR ranges of both data sets

1. 2 (x-3) = 9+ 3 (x-9)
bazaltina [42]

Answer:

x = 12

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

2(x - 3) = 9 + 3(x - 9) ← distribute parenthesis on both sides

2x - 6 = 9 + 3x - 27, that is

2x - 6 = 3x - 18 ( subtract 3x from both sides )

- x - 6 = - 18 ( add 6 to both sides )

- x = - 12 ( multiply both sides by - 1 ), thus

x = 12
