The loudness or volume determines the amplitude of a Sound wave. If the amplitude is large then it is known as larger sound. If the amplitude is small then it is known as softer sound.

The volume of a sound wave is also determined by the responsitivity of the ear. The human ear is more responsive to some frequencies only.

The volume of the sound wave that we receive depends on two things. Those are the amplitude and frequency of  sound wave.
