During the time of civil war, the American dream was to get liberty, freedom and equal rights to the people. But of the realism genre, the American dream is to get opportunity for prosperity, success and upward social mobility.

During the time of the realism genre, the American dream was to improve and get opportunities for prosperity and success and an upward social mobility for the family.

But during the time of civil war which was among the northern and the southern part of the country, the people in the southern part wanted to get freedom, liberty equality and democracy.
