le/ la /l'  /les = definite articles

L'étudiant = masc. sing // l'étudiante  = fem. sing.  ==> the student

les étudiants = masc. plur. // les étudiantes = fem. plural ==> the students


un / une /des  = undefinite articles

un étudiant /une étudiante / des étudiants(es)  = a student / students
