John Fitzgerald "Jack" Kennedy was an American politician and journalist.  He also was the 35th president of the United States from January 1961 until he was assassinated in November 1963. He served at the height of the Cold War, and the majority of his presidency dealt with managing relations with the Soviet Union. On November 22, 1963, Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

Read the sentence from Life on the Mississippi. He raged and stormed so (he was crossing the river at the time) that I judge it

I would say "I judge it made him blind" shows the realism of this man's seemingly angry state. The speaker sees that this man's anger has exceeded his "mental vision", shall we say. The man isn't sure of what he's doing, except that he must do something to feed and calm the anger.
I'm sorry if this doesn't help, but that's how I see it as realism.
