The correct answer is option A, an asteroid hitting the earth

Reason -

The extinction event of Cretaceous is considered as a mass extinction process in which near about 3/4th of the species on planet earth became extinct. The researches conducted (found in geologic record) to study the cause of this massive extinction event, revealed presence of iridium metal on the Earth crust which is a rare metal and is usually found in the asteroids or comets. Thus, hitting of planet earth by the asteroids or comets can be considered as a cause of this massive extinction.

The hypothesis is a claim that correlates the dependent and independent variables to predict results. Hypothesis: If the organic fertilizer is added to the substrate, then plants will grow taller.

What is a hypothesis?

A hypothesis is a scientific conjecture, not verified, that requires corroboration. It is a possibility, but not a fact.

The researcher hypothesizes in order to predict what is going on or what is expected to occur. The hypothesis must express what is expected to occur in a perfectly comprehensive manner.

The hypothesis is a claim of how it works a relationship between two or more variables. The exposed relationship must be logical and clear.

The hypothesis must be objective. There are different kinds of hypotheses: descriptive, correlative, differentiative, or causative.

To get to formulate a hypothesis, first we need to identify all the involved variables in the experiment. In the exposed example,

Goal: test the effects that organic and chemical fertilizers had on plant growth.

Independent variable: Type of fertilizer (organic and chemical).

Depedent variable: plant growth.

Controlled variables: type of seed, soil, water

Prediction: the organic fertilizer would make the plants grow taller.

Hypothesis: Here I propose three ways to write the same hypothesis.

 • If organic fertilizer is added to the substrate, then plants will grow taller.
 • Using organic fertilizer will make plants grow taller.
 • In comparison to chemical fertilizer, an organic fertilizer will make plants grow taller.

In this way, you can establish a direct relationship between the independent variable and the dependent one.

Complete question:

John had a science fair project that he needed to do. He wanted to test the effects that organic and chemical fertilizers had on plant growth. John predicted that the organic fertilizer would make the plants grow taller. He used three pots, three of the same type of seed, soil, organic fertilizer, chemical fertilizer, water, and a ruler. John put soil in the pots. He added chemical fertilizer to the first pot, organic fertilizer in the second pot, and no fertilizer in the third pot. He then planted one seed in each pot. John had to water the pots daily. He also checked for growth and took measurements for a period of 10 days. He measured the height of the plants.

After the 10th day, John observed that the plant with the chemical fertilizer grew the most.

The ribosome reads the mRNA (messenger RNA) and translates the nucleotide sequence into a polypeptide (protein) sequence. It reads the nucleotides in groups of 3 called codons and then accepts the correct amino acids from charged tRNAs to build the polypeptide in the correct order.
