The basis of Jean Calvin's teachings was the doctrine of predestination. He also believed in the omnipotence of the grace of God, which alone can save man.
He denied some of the rites practiced in the Catholic Church, approved the marriage of clergy, and worshiped in the vernacular, relative to the official Church that had held Latin-worshiping for centuries - an incomprehensible common people.
