Let the original rice of the carousel                = $x

Therefore cost Price                                        = $36

Discount is 80% of the original price  $x        = $36

To calculate x , we find 80% of $x and equate to $36

                                                                          = ⁸⁰/₁₀₀ ˣ  $x

                                                                          = 80x/100

                                                           80x/100 = 36

Now, multiply through by 100 and divide by 80

                                                               80x   = 3600

                                                                     x  = $45.

The original price of the carousel                   = $45.
