Sounds like someone is being told about someone else, and they're being told this person is selfish and vain, and that they are putting in a lot of work into some kind of selfish gain. This a well-known person (long enduring name). This person did something wrong to Africa/African people. I'm not entirely sure in the last two lines.

Some of these words may be unfamiliar to most and if you don't understand the meanings of these words it is 100% possible to completely misinterpret the point in the text. If you look up the words profusion, jubilantly, unthwarted (thwarted is what pops up but you get the point), and adversity it would help a lot.
