Non - Muslims who lived in states. ruled by Islamic rule were referred to as Dhimmi. These non - muslims were obligated to pay taxes referred to as Jizya.
This tax(Jizya) are used as a sign of submission by the Non- Muslims to the rules and laws of Islam. It also serves as a form of protection for Non - Muslims.
After a while, a revolt was started by the Non - Muslims whereby they protested the payment of the taxes because:
a. The amount been paid was too high
b. It was seen as a sort of humiliation for the Non - Muslims because they refused to convert to Islam.
