A.

Explanation:

O Pioneer! is a novel written by Willa Cather. The novel is first of the Great Plain triology by Cather.

In the novel narrates the story of Bergsons family and centers around the protagonist, Alexandra Bersgon, the oldest of John Bersgon's children.

Before John Bersgons died, he bestowed the responsibility of taking care of farmland on Alexandra, his oldest daughter, whom he regarded as a hardworking and stronger than her brothers.

John Bersgon's action of giving responsibility of farmland to his daughter indicates that he regarded his sons as hardworking but not smart enough as their sister, Alexandra, to manage the farm.
