One of Reagan's most well-known acts was the escalation of the Cold War. Following the Afghan Saur Revolution, Reagan decided to increase government spending on defense. He ordered a massive buildup of the U.S. Armed Forces. He also created a missile program and oversaw the deployment of the Pershing missile in West Germany. Finally, he introduced the Strategic Defense Initiative.
