Hi, Hagrid :) Thanks for posting your question here at Brainly. I hope I could help you with this problem.

The incorrect reason would be letter A: add c/a to both sides.
What he did was transpose the term c/a from the left to the right so that he could separate the terms with variables to the left hand side and the constants in the right hand side.

8. A candle is 4 inches tall and burns at the rate of 0.6 inch per hour. If the height of the candle after x hours is 1.5 inches
Ronch [10]

Answer with Step-by-step explanation:

A candle is 4 inches tall and burns at the rate of 0.6 inch per hour.

i.e. after 1 hour height of candle=4-0.6 inches

After 2 hours height of candle=4-0.6-0.6 inches

after x hours height of candle=4-0.6x

Also,

If the height of the candle after x hours is 1.5 inches

⇒ 4-0.6x=1.5

⇒ 0.6x=4-1.5

⇒ 0.6x=2.5

⇒ x=2.5/0.6

⇒ x=4.166

Hence, equation to represent the situation. is:

4-0.6x=1.5

and the expected number of hours in which the candle melted to 1.5 inches is:

4.166 hours

Stacey baked 48 more cupcakes than Tammy.After Tammy ate 12 cupcakes, Stacey had 4 times as many cupcakes as Tammy. How many cup
Citrus2011 [14]

Answer:

 80

Step-by-step explanation:

If we assume that Tammy ate 12 of the cupcakes she baked, we can write an equation relating the numbers of cupcakes.

__

setup

Let S represent the number of cupcakes Stacey baked. Then S-48 is the number Tammy baked. After Tammy ate 12 of her own cupcakes, the number she had was (S -48) -12 = (S -60). Stacey had 4 times this number:

 S = 4(S -60)

solution

 240 = 3S . . . . . . simplify, add 240-S

 80 = S . . . . . . . divide by 3

Stacey had 80 cupcakes.

_____

Additional comment

Tammy had 80-48 = 32. After Tammy ate 12, she had 20. Then Stacey had 80/20 = 4 times as many.

If Tammy ate 12 of Stacey's cupcakes, then Stacey started with 60.

Simplify

Find the answer
VLD [36.1K]

Answer:

b³

Step-by-step explanation:

The division symbol between the two terms represents a "subtraction symbol", meaning you have to subtract the exponents like this:

 • b^5 - b^2
 • b^5^-^2
 • b^3

Thus, the answer is b³
