If you feel that every citizen has the right to own a gun then you will
most likely refer to the second amendment in your argument, if you are
considering the constitution. The second constitution concerns the right
to bear arms.
The former slave owner suggested a contract to the freedman. Once the slaves were freed many white people were angry and intended to murder or harm colored people. It would be extremely difficult for colored people to find housing let alone a job. He suggested the contract as an offer of protection, and the bare necessities to survive. In return the freedman would work very hard for unfair wages.
