The author's purpose was to entertain readers with an anecdote about babysitting. Anecdote is <span>a short and amusing or interesting story about a real incident or person. 

The other choices didn't really make any sense because the persuasion in the narrative was not strong. The narrative was not informative as well.</span>

I don’t think it’s a run-on sentence (might be wrong) because it has a subordinate clause and when taken out everything makes sense?
So yeah, I think it isn’t a run-on sentence.
