Which of the following is not a part of speech A. adjective B. sentence C. noun D. preposition
anastassius [24]

Answer:

The option that is not a part of speech is:

B. sentence

Explanation:

It is important to understand the parts of speech to be able to correctly determine how a word functions in a sentence, not just grammatically, but also in meaning. It is also important to keep in mind that the same word may function as more than just one part of speech, according to the context. There are eight parts of speech: noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection. As we can see, option B. sentence is not included. As a matter of fact, a sentence is usually the result of the parts of speech being in use.

Locate the complete infinitive phrase and identify its use. Candice went to college to study medicine.
k0ka [10]

The correct answers are to study medicine; adverb.

Infinitive phrases are relatively easy to spot - they begin with the word to, are followed by the main verb, and the rest of the words closely connected in meaning. In the example above, the infinitive phrase is to study medicine - we have the word to, the verb study, and the object medicine. (Even though the phrase to college also begins with to, college is not a verb but rather a noun - this is a prepositional phrase).

The use of the infinitive phrase is adverbial - it means that it can tell us the time, place, manner, etc. of the verb, of the action being performed. In the example above, we see the reason why Candice went to college.
