Answer:

Sassoon chose this ending to the poem depicting this image because the soldiers just wanted to be back to a normal lifestyle and it's what people do in their own everyday lives. Seigfried also points out that the crucial environment the soldiers have to endure and the dull things they hope for before the war begins.
