(a) Use the fundamental theorem of algebra to determine the number of roots for 2x^2+4x+7

(a)

the theorem states that for a polynomial of degree n there are n roots. However they may be complex.

2x² + 4x + 7 is a polynomial of degree 2 ( indicated by largest exponent of the polynomial )

Hence there are 2 roots

(b)

To solve use the quadratic formula

x = ( - b ±√(b² - 4ac) ) / 2a

with a = 2, b= 4 and c = 7

x = (- 4 ± √(16 - 56) ) / 4

 = (- 4 ± √(- 40 ) ) / 4

 = ( - 4 ± 2i√10) / 4

 = - 1 ± \frac{1}{2} i√10

What is the equation for a circle with a center at (5,-2) and passes through (4,0)?
Kisachek [45]

Step-by-step explanation:

since you said equation I'm assuming it's in terms of x and y Just as a general equation

since the centre of the circle isn't at 0, you have to take that into account using the formula above. solve for the radius of the circle by substituting (4,0) into the formula and get your r value to replace in the original formula

Cindy wants to secure sequins on a piece of felt shaped like a trapezoid with a height of 10 cm. and bases of 15 cm. and 9 cm. w
ololo11 [35]
Basically, this problem wants you to solve the area of the trapezoid given those dimensions, then multiply this to the unit cost to determine the total cost. The formula for the area of trapezoid is written below:

A = (a+b)h/2, where a and b are the lengths of the two bases

A = (15+9)(10)/2 = 120 cm²

Total Cost = 120 cm² * $0.80/cm² = $96

Maria and Ming start at the same point and drive in opposite directions. Maria drives 54 mph and Ming drives 48 mph. How far apa
Wewaii [24]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Remark

They are going in opposite directions. That means you add the distances.

Total Distance = Maria_d + Ming_d

Ming

d = ?

r = 48 mph

t = 3 hour

d = r * t

d = 48 * 3

d = 144 miles

Maria

d = ?

r = 54 miles / hour

t = 3 hours

d = r * t

d = 54 * 3

d = 162

Total distance

Total = 162 + 144

Total = 306 miles

A cone-shaped water cup has a height of 3.3 inches and a diameter of 2.7 inches. One fluid ounce is equivalent to 1.8 cubic inch
DaniilM [7]

Answer:

3.5 fluid ounces

Step-by-step explanation:

In this question, we are asked to calculate the capacity in fluid ounce of a cone-shaped cup.

To solve this, we need to calculate the volume of the cup.

Mathematically, the volume of a cone =

1/3 * π * r^2 * h

Where r = d/2 = 2.7/2 = 1.35 inches

h = 3.3 inches

By substituting this, we have

V = 1/3 * 3.14 * 1.35^2 * 3.3 = 6.3 cubic inch

Now we proceed to calculate the capacity

From the question, we are told that ;

1 fluid ounce = 1.8 cubic inch

This means

x fluid ounce = 6.3 cubic inch

x = 6.3/1.8

x = 3.5 fluid ounces
