The purpose of the Act was never to 'Americanize' Native Americans,that was just a pretext. 

<span>By dividing tribal lands up into individual holdings rather than a collective tribal possession,it meant that individual natives could be bullied or cheated out of their land allotment.Individual land ownership was a concept that Native Americans never understood,let alone embraced.</span>
