A talent competition on television had five elimination rounds. After each elimination, only one-third of the contestants were s

ent to the next round. The table below shows the number of contestants in each round of the competition:
x 1 2 3 4 5
f(x) 243 81 27 9 3

Compute the average rate of change of f(x) from x = 1 to x = 4 and describe what it represents.

A. −78 contestants per round, and it represents the number of contestants who will reach the final round
B. −234 contestants per round, and it represents the number of contestants who will reach the final round
C. −234 contestants per round, and it represents the average rate at which the number of contestants changed from the first round to the fourth round
D. −78 contestants per round, and it represents the average rate at which the number of contestants changed from the first round to the fourth round

Given the number of contestant in each round:

X      1    2    3    4    5

F(x) 243 81 27  9    3

Rate of change can be calculated using y2-y1/x2-x1 formula. From rounds 1 to 4 the rate of change are

-162, -54, -18. And the average of it is -78 and it represents the average rate at which the number of contestants changed from the first round to the fourth round.

Remember

we can do anything to an equation as long as we do it to both sides

try to isolate the variable

you have 2 types
x+b=c
x/b=c

fior the first type, minus b from both sides to get
x=c-b

for the second, multiply both sides by b to get rid of the fraction to get
x=cb

also remember that -x times -1=x

b.add 25 to both sides
-a=20
multiply -1
a=-20

c.
-t/8=-4
multiply both sides by 8
-t=-32
mutiply -1
t=32

d. -n/-5=-30
mulitply both sides by -5
-n=150
multiply both sides by -1
n=-150

e. multiply both sides by 12
-l=144
multiply b y-1
l=-144

Population Growth
ohaa [14]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that the number of a certain type of bacteria increases continuously at a rate proportional to the number present.

Initial population = 150

Hence equation for population P would be

P(t) = 150e^{kt} where t = time in hours

When t=5, P = 450

Substitute to get

3 = e^{5k}

k=0.2197

P(t) = 150e^{0.2197t} is P(t)

P will double when

300 = 150e^{0.2197t}

t =3.155

Between 3rd and 4th it would double

c) Yes it doubles when 3.155 hours lapsed from the start time since t in the equation is time lapsed from start time.

Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

x >= 7

Discussion:

x + 5 >= 12                  =>  add -5 to both sides

x + 5 -5 >= 12 - 5        => as 5-5 = 0 and 12 =5 = 7

x >= 7

Thank you,

MrB
