Answer:

I believe the correct answer is True.

Explanation:

According to Karl Marx, "Religion is the opium of the people" and this was evident during the slavery period. Religion, which is the "opium" helped a lot of enslaved people forget their miseries and their present sufferings. The bulk of American slaves were from Africa, especially West Africa, who already had a deep root in religion, predominantly, Christianity and this was a result of European influence. Before this, Africans had a strong relationship and bond with their creator. Some of them prayed to their ancestors and deities. They had various spiritual songs and the rituals they do. As time passed, the slaves (African) became grounded in Christianity. They found solace with God and would usually sing spiritual songs as they worked on plantations.

Though the United States of America was built on these principles, its belief in Manifest Destiny also led to several wars with Native Americans that resulted to their removal from their land.  Having consolidated their control over their country, they now turned their attention internationally as European countries have been acquiring colonies in Africa and Asia.  They did not want to be left behind and eventually wars in Cuba gave them the opportunity to establish their own colonies.
