Answer:

With all of the news about pollution, it's hard for me to believe people still litter -- especially on military installations.

We are held to a higher standard -- right? NCOs lead the way -- right? One team, one fight -- right? Service members and Department of Defense civilians live by the Army Values -- right?

Wrong.

Littering happens on Fort Leonard Wood.

Every day I see bottles, cans, fast food bags and other garbage on the roadside.

Why, or even more importantly, how can someone just toss trash out of his or her vehicle, or just drop it on the ground without a care? It is beyond me.

The effects on our environment and wildlife are devastating, according to several online sources that document annual waste totals and decomposition rates of different common materials.

Here is a combined summary for your situational awareness:

Plastic items can take up to 1,000 years to decompose in landfills.

Those plastic grocery bags we stash inside of more plastic bags can take 10 to 20 years to decompose, and plastic bottles take 450 years.

Americans alone toss out as many as 33 billion plastic bottles in a year.

The U.S. sees more than 18 billion disposable diapers thrown away each year. They can take 550 years to decompose in landfills.

Aluminum cans take 80 to 200 years in landfills to completely decompose.

Styrofoam never decomposes -- ever.

And here is my favorite -- cigarette butts.

I quit more than 22 years ago. When I did smoke, I did not drop my butts on the ground or throw them from my car.

Should our society spend taxpayer money to colonize the moon?
guapka [62]

Answer:

Hello

Explanation:

The main reason we would colonize the moon would be for a place to be able to go into deeper space, thus a moon colony could be beneficial to the exploration of the rest of the solar system.

PART A: How does the description of the ivy vine in paragraph 18 contribute to
Solnce55 [7]

Falling of the leaves off Ivy vine describes the hopelessness of Johnsy to live and she thinks that she will also die after the last leaf falls off.

<u>Explanation:</u>

Ivy vine is a symbol of the determination that Sue has in her. It is the determination to keep Johnsy alive who has lost his hope and will to live and thinks that she will die when the last leaf falls of the vine.

Bit even the last leaf falls, Johnsy is lying on her bed and is alive after which Sue tells Johnsy that she is not going to die. Now Johnsy also has the will to live and do something in her life like she wants to paint and live happily in her life.

Consider the following sentence and then identify what type of sentence it is:
Setler [38]

The answer is C. Compound-complex.

A compound sentence is a sentence that contains two or more independent clauses connected by a comma, conjunction or semicolon. An independent clause contains a subject and verb and conforms a complete idea. A complex sentence is a sentence that makes a combination between one independent clause with at least one dependent clause.

In this case, the structure is the following:

<u>Joan was singing because she was happy,</u> and <u>she danced as she sang.</u> Both are independent clauses.

"<u>because she was happy</u>" is a dependent clause, specifically an adverb clause of reason.
