Jackie is writing a speech that claims that students should sell fruit instead of candy for the school fundraiser. In her speech

, Jackie wants to rebut the counterclaim that “students should sell candy like last year.” Which is the best rebuttal that Jackie could use in her speech? I know that we sold candy last year, but we don’t always have to sell candy every year we have a school fundraiser. We could try selling something different this year, like fruit. Last year we sold several thousand dollars worth of candy, and all you students ate that candy, which is probably why you want to sell candy again this year. But I don’t think that’s a good reason. I know a lot of students want to sell candy like last year, but fruit tastes sweet too and is better for us. Isn’t the country trying to encourage healthier eating these days? Last year I sold a lot of candy, just like you did, and we made a lot of money for the school. But I felt guilty selling so much candy to little kids whose teeth would rot and who might have gotten sick from eating all that candy. Don’t kids get enough candy as it is?

How does the author suggest that Manifest Destiny is not as noble as Cordelia makes it out to be?
sergiy2304 [10]

As the manifest destiny is a belief that states it was God's will that Americans spread over the entire continent, and to control and populate the country as they see fit. in fact, it was used before civil war to validate the acquisition of continental territories like oregon, for example. This is the central idea that the author suggests by Cordilia's ideas in her letter.

Which interrogative pronoun best completes the sentence?
shusha [124]
Out of all the pronouns, "whom" makes the most sense grammatically. This allows us to narrow it down to A or D.

In order for it to be the object of a preposition, there would have to be a preposition in front of it. "For," however is not a preposition. In fact, there isn't a preposition in the whole question.

This leaves us with option D, which is the correct answer.

You can better tell it's a direct object if you flip the sentence around a bit.
Your sister is waiting for whom?
"Whom" is essentially receiving the action. "Whom" is what your sister is waiting for.

Answer: D. whom; direct object.

Ow does Geijer’s comment support MacGregor’s point?
Mrrafil [7]

Geijer’s comment supports MacGregor’s point because:

 • It illustrates the popularity of tea in Britain during the 1800s.

What is the main point of the text?

The passage highlighted the importance of tea to the British people in the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s.

The figures that were portrayed in the passage support the point that tea consumption now marked the lives of the Britons. So, option C is right.

As it got cheaper, tea also spread rapidly to the working classes. By 1800, as foreigners remarked, it was the new national drink. By 1900 the average tea consumption per person in Britain was a staggering 6 lbs (3 kilograms) a year. In 1809 the Swede Erik Gustav Geijer commented:

Next to water, tea is the Englishman's proper element. All classes consume it . . . in the morning one may see in many places small tables set up under the open sky, around which coal-carters and workmen empty their cups of delicious beverage.
