Considering this quote, we should take into account that maybe this coach is trying to sell a good image of the students he trains because he does not want to take the guilt of the lateness of the kids to class. Maybe they are late because they are tired of too much training or because they consider more important the sport than the classes so they get to the training on time but not to the lessons. He just does not want to get involved to this problem and he is like "washing his hands" to not be part of it.
