Since 42% of the voters voted and 12000 people voted, we can conclude that:
12,000=42% of the population.

I set this up like this:
12,000=0.42 x, substituting x for the total population.
Divide both sides by 0.42 to get x by itself.
x= 28571.43.

Your final answer is 28,572 people, because you can't have 0.43 of a person.

Which expression is equivalent to 3x – 5? 2x – 4 – 1 x –x x x – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 –5 – 3x 3x 5.
jeka57 [31]

The only correct option is A.

Expression

In mathematics, an expression is defined as a set of numbers, variables, and mathematical operations that are formed according to rules which are dependent on the context.

Given to us

Desired expression 3x-5

a.) 2x – 4 – 1 + x

Solving further

2x-4-1+x\\=3x-5

As we can see on solving further the expression became equivalent to the desired expression.

b.) –x + x + x – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1

Solving further

-x+x+x-1-1-1-1-1\\=-x+2x-5\\=x-5

As we can see even on solving further the expression will not be equivalent to the desired expression.

c.) –5 – 3x

-5-3x\\=-3x-5

The expression was already solved and even when we rearranged the expression, the expression is not equivalent to the desired expression.

d.) 3x + 5

The expression is not equivalent to the desired expression as we can see that the value of 5 is not negative.

Therefore, the only correct option is A.
