5 0

Answer: 1.6\times 10^4

Explanation:

Scientific notation is defined as the representation of expressing the numbers that are too big or too small and are represented in the decimal form with one digit before the decimal point times 10 raise to the power.

For example : 5000 is written as 5.0\times 10^3

In division , the result would contain the same number of significant digits as there in the least precise number , thus the answer would have 2 significant digits.

\frac{1.248\times 10^{-2}}{7.8\times 10^{-7}}=1.6\times 10^4

The world's record in the 100 m dash is 9.69 seconds and in the 100 yard dash is 9.21 seconds.
Andrews [41]
Speed is equivalent to the distance traveled divided by the time it takes to travel that certain distance.
To solve this problem convert the units first from meter and yards to miles. 100 metes is 0.0621371mi and 100 yards is 0.0568182 yard. 9.69s = 0.002691667 hr and 9.21s = 0.002558333

A.) 23mi/hr
B.) 22.20mi/hr

How could an alpha particle pass straight through the metal foil and strike the center of the phosphor screen on the other side
djverab [1.8K]
I think you refer to  Rutherford's Gold Foil Experiment alpha particles pass through because of the enormous amount of empty space inside the atom.

>>>more details here<<<
to have its trajectory affected the alpha particle has to pass "near" the nucleus to interact with the positive charge of the nucleus.
the fact is that internally the gold atoms are basically empty space and the nucleus represents only a small portion of the entire volume. only few alpha particles pass near the nucleus
