Answer:

The required probability of none of flights will be canceled is 0.90438

The probability that exactly one will be cancelled is 0.09135

The probability that no more than one of the flights will be canceled is 0.99573

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

Approximately 1% of all flights sched- uled to depart from US airports are canceled

A flight is cancelled (p) = 0.01

A flight is not cancelled (q) = 1-0.01 = 0.99

You select 10 flights at random.

According to the Binomial distribution: P(X) = ^nC_x p^x q^{n-x}

Part a. none of the flights will be canceled.

P(X=0)=^{10}C_0 (0.01)^0 (0.99)^{10}=0.90438

Hence, the required probability of none of flights will be canceled is 0.90438

Part b. exactly one of the flights will be canceled.

P(X=1) = ^{10}C_1 (0.01)^1 (0.99)^{9}=0.09135

Hence, the probability that exactly one will be cancelled is 0.09135

Part c. no more than one of the flights will be canceled.

P(X\leq 1) = P(X=0)+P(X=1)\\P(X\leq 1)=0.90438+0.09135\\P(X\leq 1)=0.99573

Hence, the probability that no more than one of the flights will be canceled is 0.99573

A student wrote the equation of this line as y=1/5x. What mistake did she nake?
galina1969 [7]
The student is wrong in not putting a parenthesis between 1/3 and x. An equation of a line has a general equation of y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. In this case, most likely 1/3 is the slope and 0 is the y-intercept. However, writing the equation like that seems like the x variable is a denominator and if that is the case the equation will not represent a line already.

A) The answer is 24 m

x - the distance from the spot on the beach to the parking lot

Triangles that are divided by x distance is similar, and therefore:
x : 18 = 32 : x
x * x = 18 * 32
x² = 576
x = √576
x = 24

Thus, the distance the spot on the beach from the parking lot is 24 m.

b) The answer is 40 m.

x - the distance from the spot on the beach to the parking lot
b - distance from the parking lot to the refreshment stand.

First, find the horizontal leg (a) of the biggest right triangle. According to the Pythagorean theorem:
a² + b² = c²
a = ?
b = ?
c = 32 m + 18 m = 50 m

Find a from the right triangle which sides are a (as a hypotenuse), x, and 18 m.
x² + 18² = a²
x = 24
24² + 18² = a²
576 + 324 = a²
900 = a²
a = √900
a = 30 m

Now, find b:
a² + b² = c²
30² + b² = 50²
900 + b² = 2500
b² = 2500 - 900
b² = 1600
b = √1600
b = 40 m

Thus the distance from the parking lot to get the refreshment stand is 40 m.
