Answer:

g(x) = -l2xl-4

Here are some extra tips for future use (This goes for any amount of units specified I'm just using 4 as an example):

If translated 4 units down it's negative so you subtract -4 at the end of the equation.

if translated 4 units up it's positive so you'd add +4 at the end of the equation.

If translated 4 units to the left you add those 4 units to the x-value so it would be f(x)= -l2x+4l.

If translated 4 units to the right you subtract 4 units to the x-value so it would be f(x)= -l2x-4l.

The sum of the ages of Mr Lee and his son is 53 now. 4 years ago, the age of Mr Lee was 4 times that of his son. Find their ages
zepelin [54]

Answer:

Now, Mr Lee's age is 40 years, his son's age is 13 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>4 years ago:</u>

Son's age = x years

Mr. Lee age = 4x years

<u>Now:</u>

Son's age = x + 4 years

Mr. Lee age = 4x + 4 years

The sum of the ages of Mr Lee and his son is 53 now, so

x+4+4x+4=53\\ \\x+4x=53-4-4\\ \\5x=53-8\\ \\5x=45\\ \\x=9\\ \\4x=36\\ \\x+4=9+4=13\\ \\4x+4=36+4=40

Now, Mr Lee's age is 40 years, his son's age is 13 years.

I'm picking a number between 1-20. I add 5, then I times the number by 3. Lastly I takeaway it by 15. My answer is 42.
Pani-rosa [81]
So (x + 5)*3 - 15 = 42
so the answer is
42 + 15 = 15 + 3x
so solving for x:
x = 14

Simplifying radicals! Please help me &amp; Show WORK
andriy [413]

Answer:

Solving the radical 4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15}+3\sqrt{18}) we get \mathbf{-16\sqrt{30}+72}

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to simplify the radical: 4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15}+3\sqrt{18})

Prime factors of 18 are: 2x3x3

Replacing \sqrt{18} with its factors

4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15}+3\sqrt{18})\\=4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15}+3\sqrt{2\times3\times3})\\=4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15}+3\sqrt{2\times3^2})

We know that \sqrt{3^2}=3

=4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15}+3\times3\sqrt{2})\\=4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15}+9\sqrt{2})

Multiplying 4\sqrt{2} with terms inside the bracket

=4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15})+4\sqrt{2}( 9\sqrt{2}))\\=-16\sqrt{2}\sqrt{15}+36\sqrt{2} \sqrt{2}

We know that \sqrt{2} \sqrt{2}=2

=-16\sqrt{2*15}+36(2)\\=-16\sqrt{30}+72

So, solving the radical 4\sqrt{2}(-4\sqrt{15}+3\sqrt{18}) we get \mathbf{-16\sqrt{30}+72}
