The crop that provided nourishment to the growing population of Europe and eventually led to tragedy in Ireland when people became overly dependent on it was Potatoes. During their time period, they didn't have anything else to grow in their farms, until their discovered potatoes. Potatoes was one of the main crops they grew to help feed them. Because it helped feed them, it allowed for them to grow their population because they have a food source that can keep them full without worrying about starvation. In Ireland, they depended on it too much, the only thing they ate was potatoes, and that was it. As soon as something happens to the production of potatoes, they would all freak out because it is one of the things they thought they needed to survive, and that's what caused the tragedy in Ireland because they couldn't get more potatoes. They evolved around potatoes and depended on it way too much, when there were other sources to nourish their hunger

Elanso [62]
Well, during this period of time, manufacturing jobs started increasing because of the war! Men started leaving their lives in the United States and started storming out to war, and this led to women taking over these jobs. This is why we see the “Rosie the Riveter” posters during this period of time. Just remember, we don’t declare war up until December 8th 1941, when Pearl Harbor was attacked and President Roosevelt signed the Declaration of War.

Ad libitum [116K]

Answer: C. He drove out invaders and united England around a single leader.

Alfred the Great was King of Wessex from 871-886 and King of the Anglo-Saxons from 886-899. After Alfred took the throne, he dealt with many Viking invasions, until he created Danelaw in the north of England, which reduced conflict between Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. He eventually became the dominant ruler in England, uniting the country. He encouraged education, the legal system, military structure and improved the people's quality of life.
