When my grandmother was in high school, she had to follow a bunch of rules and regulations, and she had to work very hard. There were no computers, so she had to take notes by hand. She was required to read hundreds of textbook pages a week and write several papers each semester. She was not supposed to miss any classes. She had to attend class everyday in order to pass. Of course, there was no internet then, so she had to go to the library to do research. High school in her time was very different from how it was today!
