Tenemos que la metrópolis era una ciudad o un lugar extenso, que se encontraba dentro de su país de origen y donde se centra el poder político, religioso y económico, mientras la colonia son pequeñas poblaciones que se encuentran fuera del territorio de un país pero que se rigen por sus leyes, normas e impuestos.
Una metrópoli era la causante de que se formaran las colonias, principalmente porque eran los lugares con mayor poder y centralización.
