The United States responded to Japan’s increased military expansion in Asia by placing a ban on the sale of US iron, steel, and fuel to Japan. The correct answer is c.

Explanation:

The main goal of the Japanese government in the war was to expand, mainly into Asia. They developed sources of raw materials and heavy industry in Korea, Taiwan and Manchuria.

Japan used high tariffs to limit imports of American and European industrial products and aimed at gaining more lands and resources.

In protest of Japan's attacks on French military, the United States cut off trade with Japan, placing an official ban on oil, which was a necessary resource for Japan's war effort.

U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt imposed an official ban on oil exports to Japan. It pressured the Japanese navy, that had stocks for few months of operations.
