Here are the methods you can use when multiplying a whole number and a decimal. In multiplying a whole number, you can just do the normal multiplication process and the product would still be a whole number. In multiplying a decimal, it becomes different because the decimal points will affect the product. In multiplying decimal, each time we multiply by a power of 10, the decimal point is moved one place to the right. When multiplying a decimal by a whole number, placement of the decimal point is very important. When a given number has 2 decimal places, the product must also have two decimal places. Hope this explanation helps.

Dana walks 3/5 mile in 1/4 hour. What is dana's walking rate in miles per hour?
Flura [38]
Here, our equation is 3/5 (0.6) mile per 1/4 (0.25) hour. 0.25 times 4 = 1, so we have to multiply 1/4 (0.25) 4 times to get 1 mile. To get a proportional answer, we must also multiply 3/5 (0.6) by 4. This comes out to 2.4. So her walking rate is 2.4 miles per hour.

A new patio will be an irregular hexagon. The patio will have two long parallel sides and an area of 360 square feet. The area o
irina [24]
The problem ask to calculate the corresponding distance on the new patio where as the the patio will have two long parallel side and an area of 360 square feet and the area of the similar patio is 250 square feet and its long parallel sides are 12.5 feet apart. To calculate this the ratio of the distance of the two polygon is P:Q so it means that the are is also P^2:Q^2 so the ratio of the area is 36:25 so the the distance of the new patio is 18 feet

Nora and Eli are making homemade spring rolls for a party. Nora can make 8 spring rolls in 10 minutes. Eli can make 10 spring ro
devlian [24]
Eli will finish first.

Use 8/10 and 10/12. This represents how many spring rolls over how many minutes. Make your equations like this: 8/10 = 40/x and 10/12 = 40/x. Find x, which will give you the minutes it takes them to make 40 rolls.

You get x = 50 for the first one and x = 48 for the second. Nora makes 40 rolls in 50 minutes, and Eli makes 40 rolls in 48 minutes. Eli is faster.
