there were 200 tickets sold for a college game. Tickets were $4.50 for students and $9.00 for adults. The total amount was $1485
artcher [175]

70 tickets were sold to students and 130 tickets were sold to adults

Solution:

The total number of tickets sold is 200 for a college game

The price of ticket for student is $4.50 and

The price of ticket for adult is $9.00

The total amount was $1485

So, let the number of ticket sold to student be ‘a’

And the number of ticket sold to adult be ‘b’

The equation can be formed as follows:-

a + b = 200 ------ eqn 1

4.50a + 9b = 1485 ------- eqn 2

Multiplying equation (1) by 9 and subtracting from (2) , we get

(9a + 9b) - (4.50a + 9b) = 1800 – 1485

9a – 4.50a = 315

4.50a = 315

a = 70

Substituting value of “a” in equation (1), we get

b = 130

Hence, 70 tickets were sold to students and 130 tickets sold given to adults
