The primary responsibility of air traffic controllers is the separation of aircraft. They control traffic in and around airports and in the terminal and en route airspace in between. Controllers speak directly with pilots, notifying them of traffic or weather in there vicinity.
The northern European plain is vastly devoid of trees and the major vegetation is grass and farming crops. The geography has been largely transformed by humans so the most likely things to be found there are man-made.
