Answer:

After 29 week both watch 21 hours of television per week.

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

Part (A)

It is given that At the beginning of the semester students reported that they spend an average of 5 hours per day watching television

That means they spent 5×7 = 35 hours in first week.

Then decreasing at an average rate of 30 minutes per week.

In week 2, it will be 34.5 hours per week.

In 3rd week, it will be 34 hours per week and so on.

For x weeks the required equation will be:

S = 35 - 0.5(x-1)

S = 35.5 - 0.5x

Part (B)

Professors spends 1 hour per day in a week he spent 1×7=7 hours.

For 2nd week, it will be 7.5 hours per week.

For 3rd week, it will be 8 hours per week and so on.

For x weeks the required equation will be:

P = 7 + 0.5(x-1)

P = 6.5 + 0.5x

Part (C)

Equate the equations

35.5 - 0.5x = 6.5 + 0.5x

0.5x + 0.5x  = 35.5 - 6.5

x  = 29

Now substitute x=29 in P= 6.5 + 0.5x

P = 6.5 + 0.5(29)

P = 6.5 + 14.5

P = 21

Thus, after 29 week both watch 21 hours of television per week.

Prove, using the second derivative, that the general quadratic y= ax^2+bx+c, is:
lozanna [386]

There are three things you have to know:

  • A function is convex when its second derivative f''(x)>0
  • A function is concave when it second derivative f''(x)
  • The derivative of a power, x^n, is nx^{n-1}

So, the first derivative is

y'=2ax+b

and the second derivative is

y''=2a

This implies that the second derivative of a parabola is constant, and of course that 2 doesn't change the sign of a.

Determine which of the following are equivalence relations and/or partial ordering relations for the given sets: A = { lines in
VLD [36.1K]

Answer:

Check the explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

1

a) A is an Equivalence Relation

Reflexive : x is parallel to itself => x R x

Symmetric : x is parallel to y => y is parallel to x.

Therefore x R y => y R x

Transitive :  x is parallel to y and y is parallel to z then x, y, z are parallel to each other.

=> x R y and y R z => x R z

Therefore A is equivalent.

1. b)

x r y if and only if |x-y| less than or equal to 7

Reflexive : |x-x| = 0 <= 7 => x R x Satisfied.

Symmetric : let x R y => |x-y| <= 7

Consider |y-x| = |(-1)*(x-y)| = |x-y| <= 7

=> y R x => Satisfied

Transitive : let x R y and y R x

=> |x-y| <= 7 and |y-z| <= 7

but this doesn't imply x R z

Counter-Example : x = 1, y = 7, z = 10

Therefore this relation is neither Equivalent nor Partial Order Relation.

Maslowich

Answer:

Hey!

The 6th term of your sequence is 23!

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>This is how you get it...</u>

1) T6=3n+5  (the 6th term and the equation...)

2. We now do T6=3(6)+5  (3 x 6 then add 5)

3. In other words... T6=18+5

4. We work it out 18 + 5 = 23
