Six servings of stew can be cooked in a 2-quart pot. How many can be cooked in a 12-quart pot? Jane solved 6 2 = f 12 and answer

ed 36. Ivania solved 2 6 = 12 f and answered 36. Compare the two methods. Are both correct?

The problem can be solved in different ways.

Applying a rule of three we have:

6 servings ---------------> 2-quart pot

x ---------------------------> 12-quart pot

Clearing the value of x we have:

x = (\frac{12}{2}) * (6)\\x = 36

Using ratios can also be solved in two ways:

Way 1:

Service relationship to quart pot:

\frac{6}{2} =\frac{f}{12}

Clearing f we have:

f = (\frac{6}{2}) * (12)\\f = 36

Way 2:

Relationship of quart pot to services:

\frac{2}{6}= \frac{12}{f}

Clearing f we have:

f = (\frac{6}{2}) * (12)\\f = 36

Answer:

The two methods are correct.

Suppose that w and t vary inversely and that t = 5/12
Svetlanka [38]

Answer:

Option B. t=5/3w ;1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

We are told that w varies Inversely with t thus generally speaking w∝\frac{1}{t}  since they are inverted, <u>otherwise</u> if they were proportionally varied then w∝t. This means that there is a constant value ( a ) for which w is inversely proportional to t and can be mathematically expressed as:

w=\frac{a}{t}        Eqn. (1)

Now since we are given the values of w=4 and t=\frac{5}{12}, we can plug them in Eqn. (1) and find our constant of proportionality a as follow:

w=\frac{a}{t}\\ \\a=wt\\\\a=(4)(\frac{5}{12} )\\\\a=\frac{5}{3}

Now that we have our constant we can find the new t value for the second value of w=5 as follow:

w=\frac{a}{t} \\\\t=\frac{a}{w}\\ \\t=\frac{\frac{5}{3} }{5}\\\\t=\frac{5}{15}\\ \\t=\frac{1}{3}\\

Therefore based on the options give, we can see that Option B. is correct since

t=\frac{5}{3w} and for w=5, then t=\frac{1}{3}

Using the graph as your guide, complete the following statement.
iogann1982 [59]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The discriminant tells you where the graph of the parabola goes through the x-axis, if at all. If the discriminant is negative there are no real zeros and the parabola does not cross or touch the x-axis; if the discriminant is positive the parabola will go through the x axis in 2 places; if the discriminant is 0 the parabola will touch the x-axis in 1 place. Our discriminant is 0 since the parabola only touches the x-axis but does not go through.
