Which statement about bacterial cell walls is false?

Biology

Answer: b) Cell walls prevent cells from dying in hypertonic conditions.

A cell wall is a layer located outside the cell membrane found in plants, fungi and bacteria. The cell wall of bacteria is made up peptidoglycan which gives bacteria a structural support. Peptidoglycan is responsible for the rigidity of the bacterial cell wall and for the determination of it's shape.

A hypertonic solution has a higher concentration of solute and lower concentration of water than the cell. This will cause a net movement of water out of the cell and into the solution by osmosis. Although cell wall is a semipermeable membrane but it will not be able to prevent the water loss. This will result in dehydration of bacterial cell, and cell may die.

Therefore, cell walls does not prevent bacterial cells from dying in hypertonic conditions.

What is the role of calcium in muscle contractions?
Firdavs [7]

Answer:

Inside the muscle, calcium facilitates the interaction between actin and myosin during contractions (2,6). ... Calcium binds to the troponin, causing a position change in tropomyosin, exposing the actin sites that myosin will attach to for a muscle contraction (5,6). Blood Clotting. Without calcium blood would not clot.

Shallow groove on the surface of the cortex is called a
nignag [31]

Shallow groove on the surface of the cortex is called sulcus.

Cortex means the outer layer of an inner organ. The outer layer of the cerebrum is called cerebral cortex, where cerebrum occupies the biggest part of the brain. A human being has four lobes of the cerebral cortex which include temporal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, and frontal lobe.

Cortex has six layers of different types of neurons which are responsible for higher information processing and thinking. Cerebral cortex controls general movement, behavioural reactions, perception and visceral functions. We term the grooved layer as the brain itself.Cerebral cortex consists of large amounts of sulci and gyri(sulcus and gyri in singular). The number of gyri correlates to the processing ability of the animal.A man has big gyri compared to a rat.

How does the tapeworm prevent itself from being removed along with the waste?
Setler79 [48]
Tape worms have numerous adaptations to enhance their survival in the hosts.
For example the have anatomical adaptations in the form of scolex with hooks that they use to attach to the host small intestine walls therefore preventing them from being excreted following peristalsis. Therefore, the correct answer is that they posses hooks that they use to attach to the small intestines.
